When ordinary services fail, they find their own ways and their frustration leads to sharing what worked for their child with others, in the event it may help another child.
Susan Ellis from Marietta, Georgia, is just one of many such parents. Her son Ryan couldn't learn how to write.
Along with his occupational therapist, Marnie Danielson, Ryan's mom created a video using chants and it worked for him. Like many parents, she shares her success because it may work for another child with autism. She's made her videos commercially available via her Web site.

Susan Ellis' son Ryan needed help. She came up with an innovation she says is so good, it could help other kids dramatically.
Ryan is the 5-year-old his parents always dreamed of.
“He's a little love. Dancing, singing, jumping around. He's a happy kid. Very smart,” said Susan.
Not long ago, his mom was saying something else. It was enough to bring her to tears.
“Three years ago, he was a nightmare. He couldn't talk,” Susan said.

Watch & Learn (To Write)
A mother and an OT create a video that helps a boy with autism learn to write.

Six-year-old Ryan Ellis was diagnosed with autism at 3-and-a-half. At that age, he was non-verbal and did not know the difference between a pillow and a remote control. Susan Ellis, Ryan's mom, did not want to leave their home because it was too difficult to deal with his tantrums and difficult behavios out in public.
